Adam Clayton
Holistic Funeral
Celebrant

LS17, Leeds and surrounding area

My heartfelt condolences as you begin to understand and absorb the loss of your loved one. Funerals are important 'staging posts' on the journey of grief and it is my job to help you at this poignant moment. I have conducted well over 400 funerals in a career that has spanned spells as a Church Minister and a Hospital Chaplain. Now, I offer my services as a Holistic Funeral Celebrant- bringing that experience, openness and sensitivity to you in your time of need. Funerals have changed a lot over in recent years but what remains important is that you hear the uniqueness of your loved one reflected back to you: so their funeral is a place where love, tears and laughter can all mingle together in authentic celebration.

Being an effective celebrant means getting to know the impact of the person who has died. This means taking time to meet loved ones and let the story of their life unfold.

As this narrative is told, shared and heard, the shape of their funeral service emerges. I help you find the words and music to best honour your dear departed one. I'm also the person who brings calmness and kindness of the day itself; freeing you to "be yourself" in your grief.

Laughter and tears, words and silence, music and reverence, they are key ingredients as we say goodbye and begin to express the feelings we hold in hurting hearts.

Getting to know your loved one in life- It can be worrying if the celebrant conducting a funeral has never met or really knew the person you are grieving. If this is a concern please get in touch and I can arrange a home visit to help them plan their service and forge a connection with them

When the past is difficult

Even the brightest lives can cast shadows and sometimes as much as we want to approach a funeral as a celebration we find difficult and ambivalent feelings welling up.

As well as over 20 years experience of offering pastoral care I am also trained in therapy and offer non-judgmental, compassionate listening. Discretion is really important in this process, but I know the difference it can make on the day of a funeral when relatives know that they've been able to share confidentially and unburden themselves.

Testimonials

Morning Mist over Forest

Adam was amazing. We could not have asked for more from him. As soon as we met before the funeral to make plans we felt at ease and in safe hands. He really guided us through the process with compassion and understanding.

What a perfect service you delivered for us all yesterday. You made it heartfelt, caring & loving towards my beautiful mum which was all l could ever wish for.

Thank you so much for this. You have done a wonderful job with the material we gave you and your own additions. I love the way you have woven the story together.

I am writing to thank you so much for the lovely service you conducted for my Mum yesterday.

I think all the guests commented on how warm and relaxed it was- quite unlike usual funeral services!- and that it captured Mum’s character so well. You helped to make what could have been a
very stressful experience a more celebratory event.

"Thank you", seems wholly inadequate to express my gratitude for the service you led for my Mum's funeral. It was special in so many ways and on so many levels...your comforting and reassuring words from your heart... the things you remembered and picked up; your gentle humour.

I found the funeral so
honouring to my parents and so comforting spiritually.

I wanted to thank you for today. Your lovely words and gentle manner were greatly appreciated and were just as dad would have wanted. He was fortunate indeed to have met you.

Your words of comfort were very soothing, and much needed at this time. In particular, thank you for helping Mum to feel at peace with her guilt from the times she felt challenged and frustrated over the last year.
